| description | The study of the Japanese community in Canada is marked by a fragmented history due to the Second World War. The war resulted in the confiscation of property and the forced internment of more than twenty thousand Japanese which nearly wiped out both the ancient community and its historical record. This text focuses on the literature of these immigrants, particularly the journalistic work of Suzuki Etsu for the Tairiku Nippô, one of the few newspapers that were not lost. This study aims to recover this lost history and to understand the complexities of the Japanese Canadian community before and after the First World War. Through the interpretation of Etsu's texts, an attempt will be made to elucidate how his articles "could have been read" by such a specific audience and how this sheds light on the Japanese Canadian community of that period. |

El estudio de la comunidad japonesa en Canadá está marcado por una historia fragmentada debido a la Segunda Guerra Mundial. La contienda provocó la confiscación de bienes y el internamiento forzado de más de veinte mil japoneses que casi terminó con la antigua comunidad y su registro histórico. Este texto se enfoca en la literatura de estos inmigrantes, particularmente en el trabajo periodístico de Suzuki Etsu en el Tairiku Nippô, uno de los pocos periódicos que no se perdieron. El objetivo es recuperar esta historia perdida y comprender las complejidades de la comunidad nipocanadiense antes y después de la Primera Guerra Mundial. A través de la interpretación de los textos de Etsu, se intenta dilucidar cómo sus artículos "pudieron haberse leído" por una audiencia tan específica y cómo esto ilumina la situación de su respectiva comunidad.
