Artists spend both energy and talent exposing the nature of and possible solutions to this hydra-headed problem in their midst. Novelists such as Moyez Vassanji, cartoonists like Godfrey Mwampembwa and songwriters such as Eric Wainaina produce works detailing and challenging corrupt practices in present-day Kenya. These represent an important and progressive movement within these art forms. The fact that the same theme is similarly developed across multiple genres forces us to reevaluate the divisive categories within European and American criticism and to recognize the extent to which artists and audiences in Kenya are able and apt to respond to multiple media for information and entertainment. |

Uno de los problemas más recurrentes que han enfrentado las poblaciones africanas ha sido el grado en que se han visto envueltas en redes de autoenriquecimiento que obstaculizan muchos de los procesos esenciales de la vida cotidiana. Kenia, en el este del continente, constituye uno de los ejemplos más chocantes que hay en ese sentido: los artistas kenianos gastan su energía y talento en el intento por dejar al descubierto la naturaleza de la corrupción y por exponer soluciones potenciales a este problema multifacético que permea el tejido social. Novelistas como Moyez Vassanji, caricaturistas como Godfrey Mwampembwa y cantautores como Eric Wainaina producen obras que describen detalladamente y desafían las prácticas corruptas en Kenia; representan, por ello, un movimiento importante y progresivo en cuanto a expresión artística. El hecho de que se logre desarrollar el mismo tema a través de múltiples géneros nos debe forzar a reconsiderar las categorías de división que se utilizan en la crítica europea y estadounidense para reconocer el grado en el que los artistas y el público de Kenia pueden reaccionar ante medios y fuentes de información variados en su búsqueda de entretenimiento y estimulación intelectual relevantes.
