| Resumo: | Given China’s increasing energy demand, its leaders have started looking for new ways to produce clean energy. And thanks to the fact that several rivers run through its territory, China has been pushing forward the construction of hydraulic infrastructure. However, the decision has been highly criticized due to environmental costs, displaced populations as well as damage to flora and fauna. This study focuses on the Nu River, a river 2048 km long that goes all the way from the Tibetan Plateau to the Gulf of Martaban, to analyze the Chinese government’s efforts to find a balance between the need for renewable energy as well as economic development and environmental protection along the resettlement of the population.
