We found evidence of how the reanalysis of noun to relative pronoun took place, and we propose three stages of grammaticalization for these relative pronouns. We suggest the relative pronoun of San Bartolo Yautepec Zapotec is in the second stage since it has suffered the loss of animacy features. We argue that this type of reanalysis is a grammaticalization channel common to Zapotec languages spoken in the Sierra Sur of Oaxaca, and we give examples from five Zapotec languages. |

En este artículo se estudia el desarrollo histórico del sustantivo *kw-enneʔ ‘persona’ desde el protozapoteco hasta el zapoteco de San Bartolo Yautepec, una variante de zapoteco sureño. Esta forma se gramaticalizó como un pronombre de tercera persona de respeto =mé, como primer elemento en algunos compuestos nominales que comienzan con men- y como el pronombre relativo men. Se estudian las formas cognadas del pronombre relativo men en otras variantes de zapoteco cisyautepequeño en donde encontramos evidencia de cómo se dio el reanálisis de sustantivo hipernónimo a pronombre relativo y se proponen 3 etapas de gramaticalización para estos pronombres relativos. Se propone que el pronombre relativo del zapoteco de San Bartolo Yautepec se encuentra en la segunda etapa en la que ha sufrido pérdida de rasgos de animacidad. Se argumenta que este reanálisis de sustantivos hiperónimos a pronombres relativos es un canal de gramaticalización de pronombres relativos común en las lenguas zapotecas de la Sierra Sur y se proporcionan ejemplos de cinco lenguas zapotecas.
