In specific, our interests are: (i) to determine which is the geographic distribution of this discourse marker in different varieties of Spanish, (ii) to describe the influence of gender, age, and education level when this marker is used in Mexico City’s Spanish, and (iii) to characterize its discourse functions. For such purposes, three corpora are analyzed, PRESEEA (2014), Ameresco (Albelda & Estellés 2021), and Corpus Sociolingüístico de la Ciudad de México (Martín Butragueño & Lastra 2011, 2012, 2015). The results show that haz de cuenta (que) is a discourse marker characteristic of the variety of Mexico’s Spanish and has four pragmatics functions: (i) exemplification, (ii) reformulation, (iii) enactment, and (iv) continuative. Furthermore, in Mexico City’s Spanish, this marker is used more frequently by younger speakers and medium education level speakers, while gender apparently has not a particular influence because women and men show a similar average of use. Finally, it is concluded that haz de cuenta (que) is a dialect mark of Mexico Spanish that has had a major development over the last years. |

Este trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar el comportamiento del marcador discursivo haz de cuenta (que) considerando la influencia de los factores sociales: región geográfica, sexo, edad y nivel de instrucción. En particular, se busca: (i) determinar cuál es la distribución geográfica de este marcador en distintas variedades del español, (ii) describir la influencia del sexo, la edad y el nivel de instrucción en su empleo en el español de la Ciudad de México y (iii) caracterizar sus funciones discursivas. Para tales fines, se analizan los corpus PRESEEA (2014), Ameresco (Albelda & Estellés 2021) y el Corpus Sociolingüístico de la Ciudad de México (Martín Butragueño & Lastra 2011, 2012, 2015). Los resultados señalan que este marcador es propio de la variante del español de México y, como tal, puede desempeñar cuatro funciones: (i) ejemplificación, (ii) reformulación, (iii) representación y (iv) continuativo. En cuanto a la influencia de las variables sociales, en el español de la Ciudad de México, son los jóvenes y el nivel de instrucción medio quienes privilegian su uso, en tanto que mujeres y hombres muestran un comportamiento bastante homogéneo en su empleo. Finalmente, se concluye que haz de cuenta (que) es una marca dialectal del español de México que se ha desarrollado en los años recientes.
