Description
Summary:This paper describes the phonology and morphology of tonal clitics in the Triqui of Chicahuaxtla, an Oto-Manguean language spoken in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. It aims to determine the underlying representation of the clitics, as well as to explain the tonal alternations that motivate when attached to a lexical stem. This work adopts the general principles of Autosegmental Phonology in which tonal representation is on a separate tier from the segmental representation. The analysis is carried out in the domain of the inflection of the grammatical person, and shows that the tone is morphological in this language.
