This time, issues such as the deterioration of cross-strait relations and the strengthening ties with the United States were on the agenda. Divisions within the opposition and the ruling party’s swift selection of a presidential candidate strongly influenced the presidential race up until August 2023. However, the global economic slowdown had a direct impact on Taiwan’s export sector.
