En virtud de sus disposiciones, destacadas figuras prodemocracia han sido arrestadas, mientras que partidos políticos y medios de comunicación independientes han sido reprimidos. La economía de Hong Kong se perfila hacia una recuperación gradual tras las protestas de 2019 y la pandemia de covid19. No obstante, dicha mejoría dependerá del aumento en el consumo interno y de la continua llegada de inversiones y de talento internacional.
